Rated 1 out of 5 by Gene from Low Quality - Terrible service I purchased a 9' Extra Heavy action IM8 casting rod for $90 and after 2 uses, the reel mount broke free from the rod body. The reel now rotates freely around the rod body. I reported this back to Berkley and they in turn offered to sell me a different rod for and additional $60. What a joke. I thought I was buying a premium product from a reputable company. I guess I was wrong. Buyer beware. If you buy one and it falls apart, they don't care

Rated 4 out of 5 by soManyFish from Good rod but a little stiff in the tip I bought the 9' XH (3/4 - 3 oz, 20-65 lb line) rod a couple of years ago. I have used it for casting 1-2 oz crankbaits, spoons and jigs for pike, static bottom fishing in a river with bait (w/ 2-3 oz lead) for Walleye and Lake Sturgeon, and trolling with a dipsy diver for Silver (Coho) Salmon in Alaska. It has worked well for all these applications. Depending on the use, I pair it with an Abu Garcia 6500 C3 (w/ 50 lb braid) or an Abu Garcia 6600 C5 MagX w/ 17 lb Trilene XL. For a 9' rod it feels light and nicely balances with these reels (reel weight approx. 10.5-11.5 oz plus line). The guides on my rod show no sign of wear. The rod has lots of backbone and has easily handled everything I've caught with it. My only complaint about the rod is that the action seems to be overly stiff in the tip. A slightly softer tip would help add more distance to casting and it would help with bite detection when static bottom fishing with bait.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DPeters from Lightwieght, Durable, Soft Slow Tip Hands down best bottom bouncing rod made. The 8'6" and 9'6" medium action have the perfect tip. Fish will buckle the rod over in a rod holder and hook themselves without even knowing it. Been guiding and tournament fishing with them the last 2 years and have yet to break one. Great Rod!

Rated 5 out of 5 by DakotaSlim from Super Rods - Super Company! I fish for Northern Pikeminnows in the Columbia & Snake Rivers every year. I bought an IM8 8'6 M casting rod 3 years ago and liked it so much I bought a 10'6 ML spinning rod. I have a lot of rods but these 2 Berkley Air rods are by far my favorites. I fish every day for 5 months and catch a ton of pikeminnows ranging from under a pound to 7 pounds. I also hook lots of other fish like bass, walleyes, steelhead, catfish, suckers & sturgeon. Some I keep, some I release and some I just break off. These rods handle them all. I broke my 8'6 casting rod this year (my fault) and it is out of warranty. They have a great discount replacement policy. Just send them a couple photos of your broken rod and get a huge discount on a new rod. Ya gotta like that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Morgan1792 from Great bang for the Buck I have spent the past 4 years fishing the Pacific NW mainly for salmon, steelhead, and sturgeon. Most of my rods are expensive Lamiglas. However, my go to for big chinook and small sturgeon is an 8'6" XH 15-50lb rod. This is the best bargain rod if you need a "big stick" for blunt force fishing at a bargain price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by rob4 from not worth it Purchased the extra heavy 9 ft for salmon...went one trip when it was cold (29 degrees) and it broke. Was very brittle and we were being careful. Then when I asked about the warranty Berkley wanted over $60 to replace. I can buy them cheaper than that on sale here...Never again

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great rod thats hard to find now. I have used the berkley air im 7 for close to 15 years, last spring i saw the new im8 10'6" xl so i bought it and it is probably the best feeling steelhead rod i have ever used even though i have used many different rods over the years. It very light in the hand, has GREAT sensitivity and just the right amount of backbone to turn fish in current. I have been a avid river steelheader for over 20 years, regularly fishing the big manistee river 50+ days a year and this is the rod to have in my opinion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LAWRENCE from Awesome for saltwater I live in Guam and i use my 9 foot medium heavy for saltwater casting, from skip jacks to grouper the rod has allot of power to keep big groupers from swimming back into holes. For jacks its even more awesome. The weight is just perfect i can walk in the water the whole day and cast the whole day without much fatigue.
