Berkley Trilene Pro Asheley Is Lake Murray Champion
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Berkley Trilene pro and South Carolina native Casey Ashley was victorious at the Carolina Clash that was held on Lake Murray, S. C., this past weekend. Ashley squeaked by fellow Trilene pros Davy Hite and Michael Iaconelli to cash a $100,000 check and come away with his second B.A.S.S. Elite Series title.
With his winning bag of 61-Pounds, 3-ounces, the Smith Mountain, S.C., native also stamped his ticket to the 2012 Bassmaster Classic that is set to take place on the Red River.
"This venue is exactly where I needed to win," said Ashley. "To get a victory in front of the home crowd was really important to me, and I couldn't have done it with out great sponsors like Berkley and Abu Garcia. Most my bites came on a shaky head with 8-pound Berkley Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon. The bite was tough, but with the nearly invisible line my presentations looked more realistic, which lead to this victory."
In addition to Berkley line, Ashley used both the Abu Garcia Revo Premier and Revo STX low profile baitcast reels as well as the Abu Garcia Cardinal 804 Spinning reel.
"The line is key when working pressured fish," said Ashley. "Lake Murray is known for its fishing, and a ton of anglers hit this place religiously so it is vitally important to keep your presentation very subtle. Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon is my go-to line when it comes to finesse fishing. This line paired with the Revo spinning reel carried the day for me."
The next Elite Series event is set for June 9-12 on the Arkansas River in Little Rock, Ark.
