1st Annual Berkley Big Bass Challenge on Lake Murray Successful

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The 1st Annual Berkley Big Bass Challenge on the South Carolina's Lake Murray had a field of 100 plus anglers and awarded over $18,000 in cash and prizes. The fun and unique hourly big bass format challenges anglers not only on their fishing skills. The unique tournament format also employs strategy when weighing in fish. Another wrinkle added into the formula is that anglers are only allowed to use Berkley baits.

Fishing started chilly at the event and warmed during the day. The first Big Bass Challenge on Lake Murray was ran out of Dreher Island State Park in Columbia, S. C. While conditions were ideal, Tony Postell weighed in at noon and brought a 6.07-pound Murray bass to the scales, edging a pair of fish weighing 5.26 pounds in previous hours.

"This was a great event for the entire family," said Andrew Marks, Berkley Marketing Director. "These events have always produced results largely to the fact that everyone simply enjoys fishing in a non-pro event. The Big Bass Challenge is a one-of-a-kind tournament that an anglers weigh-in strategy plays more of a part than the angling itself."

The Berkley Experience trailer, a 60-foot event center, was on site from Friday at 2:00 PM until the final weigh-in and awards on Saturday. The trailer featured Interactive presentation screens, educational seminars on line selection, reel maintenance, rod selection and selecting the right bait, a knot tying station and competition, bait demonstration tanks and many other fun elements designed to help the anglers Catch More Fish. The Experience trailer also have a good selection of Berkley baits for sale, if anglers did not already stocked up for the tournament.

"The next Big Bass event is set for October 22nd – 23rd on Lake Fork, Texas," said Andrew Marks, Berkley Marketing Director. "The anglers are learning about the full spectrum of Berkley baits in a fun and rewarding way. Many of the fish were caught on our family of PowerBait Chigger Craws and Jerk Shads baits, but we had several fish brought in on Hollow Belly Swim Baits, jigs and even the new Thump Worm that just hit the stores recently."
