Powroznik Earns Rookie Top Prize
Berkley Pro also wins Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship Tournament
Jacob Powroznik set lofty goals for the 2014 BASS Elite Series. In August Powroznik made one of those goals a reality – winning the Bassmaster Elite Series Rookie of the Year title. The Berkley® pro angler completed this objective by finishing in 6th place overall at the A.R.E. Truck Caps Bassmaster Elite event that took place on Cayuga Lake, N. Y. This past weekend Powroznik won the weather-shortened Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship on Lake Michigan.
"This has been one of my goals all along going through the season," said Powroznik. "When you set a goal there is no reason to lose focus, and I feel I completed the season strong. I'm proud of the year so far. I've still got a bunch of work to get done."
Powroznik outlasted 13 other rookies by amassing 623 points over the eight tournaments this regular season. The young Berkley pro has finished 11 times in the money over his brief B.A.S.S. career. He has six top 10 finishes and three victories with over $200,000 in prize money earned, including $38,500 for the Rookie Angler of the Year award.
"I've had a blast this year," said Powroznik. "Fishing the Elite series taught me a lot about my angling skills. I've got some more room for improvement, but I'm happy about my progression. This year has been a great introduction to the Elites. I know I can build on this for the upcoming seasons."
The Rookie of the Year annually goes to the BASS Elite Series rookie who has the highest year-end point total in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season.
