Reese Runs Rampant On Smith Mountain

Columbia, S.C. – To say Skeet Reese ran away with the tournament trophy and $100,000 during the BASS tournament on Smith Mountain Lake would be a huge understatement. It would be more appropriate to say that he blew the doors off the competition, finishing 14 pounds ahead of second place finisher Jason Williamson. During the four-day event, Reese totaled 78 pounds, one ounce.

"It was one of those tournaments that set up well to my strengths, which is power fishing and covering lots of water," said Reese. "The first day didn't put me on the right track, but the second, third and fourth were picture perfect."

Reese built more than a 6 pound lead heading into Sunday, but with ever-changing conditions on Smith Mountain, the leader in Angler of the Year points put the hammer down on the final day of competition, boating a final-day tally of 19 pounds, 14 ounces. Reese used 15-pound Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon spooled on an Abu Garcia Revo Skeet Reese model.

Reese reflected on the final day of fishing stating, "I knew the fish were there and I absolutely knew I could take this tournament. It was one of those rare days of fishing were everything I threw was golden. The virtually invisible Trilene 100% was a key factor."

This marks the fifth Elite Series title since the Auburn, Calif., native began fishing the pro circuit. Reese also padded a healthy lead in the Angler of the Year race, amassing 885 points. He leads Greg Hackney by 87 points going into the next Elite Series event on Pickwick Lake, which begins April 29th through May 2nd.
