Palaniuk Surges To Victory On Bull Shoals

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Brandon Palaniuk, a 24 year-old B.A.S.S. Elite Series sophomore and Berkley pro team member, earned his first Elite Series win this past weekend on Bull Shoals Lake. For his efforts, the Rathdrum, Id., native claimed the $100,000 top prize and an entry into next years Bassmaster Classic.

Palaniuk overcame a nasty treble hook injury that required a visit to the local emergency room on day 2 of the four day event. Luckily, Palaniuk already had his limit that day and was able to finish out the event. His final four-day total was 78 pounds, 6 ounces, enough to best the field by over 10 pounds.

"This was an unbelievable tournament for me," said, Palaniuk. "I was fishing a great area that I found in practice and was confident it held the quality of fish that I needed. This was a great day for my sponsors and me. Berkley has been a huge help to me, and I appreciate all the support they give me."

Many of Palaniuk's fish were caught with deep diving crankbaits, utilizing 10-pound Berkley 100% Fluorocarbon line. He fished an area known as Sugar Loaf, which paid off in the end for the young Elite Series pro.

"The line was key," said Palaniuk. "The lighter 100% Fluorocarbon line gave me the ability to run those crankbaits deeper and allowed me to be extremely accurate."

Berkley pros that also made headlines, earning them a top twelve finish were: Britt Meyers (2nd Place), Matt Herren (3rd Place), Bobby Lane (7th Place), Scott Rook (8th Place), Jason Quinn (10th Place) and Keith Poche (12th Place).

The next Bassmaster Elite Series event is scheduled to take place May 3-6 on Tennessee's Douglas Lake.
