  • Anglers and industry groups unite to address catch limit problems in federal saltwater fisheries

    A bill introduced by Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA) seeks to ensure that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Marine Fisheries Service is required to set catch limits based on sound science. The bi-partisan legislation, known as the Fishery Science Improvement Act (FSIA), is endorsed by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus as well as a broad coalition of conservation, sportfishing and marine industry groups.

    Berkley pro Ott Defoe created quite an impact in his first year on the B.A.S.S. Elite Tournament Trail. The 25-year old native of Knoxville, TN, captured the 2011 B.A.S.S. Rookie of the Year in strong fashion. Not only did he out fish the other 15 rookies on the trail, he just about beat out the entire lot of the best bass anglers in the world, finishing fourth just 206 points behind the Angler of the Year.

The gala closing ceremony included the announcements of the new product award winners. Leading the awards announcements was the naming of Berkley NanoFil as recipient of the first-ever category for Innovation of the Year.

All Corinth, Mississippi natives brought in over 500 pounds of Wels Catfish and came in a very close second, missing the title by a mere 1 pound, 3 ounces.

  • Event to Take Place in Chiprana, Spain

    Captain Phil King, Tim Haynie and David Shipman will be fishing the Berkley World Catfish Classic to take place May 31st to June 3rd at Chiprana, Spain. Berkley plans on sending eight other teams from around the globe to compete in the Catfish Classic.

Federation Nation conservation and angler recruitment and retention projects conducted in 2010. The Institute awards a $2,000 check for the best conservation project and $1,500 in fishing gear for the best angler recruitment/retention project.

    Berkley pro Davy Hite earned his eighth career Bassmaster victory this past weekend on Pickwick Lake. The Ninety Six, S.C., native cashed a $100,000 check with his four-day bag of 84-pounds, 9-ounces. Hite edged fellow Berkley pro Bobby Lane in the event, which also earned Hite his 14th Bassmaster Classic qualification.
