Product Reviews

Gulp! Shrimp is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Quality not what it used to be... First, I am a firm believer that Gulp shrimp catch near or just as many fish as live shrimp. My buddies and I have tested this and found it to be true. Unfortunately, the quality of the product seems to have taken a turn for the worse. It seems that Berkley has taken to using softer material that does not last nearly as long as it used to and, apparently, weaker glues as well. Where I used to be able to catch 5+ fish from the same bait, now I'm lucky to get 1-2 before it is torn in half or chewed up. I attached a video of one bait that broke in half after just one cast with not even a strike on it. I truly hope that they will reverse this trend or I will have to switch to another brand.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Still Catch Fish! But not a fan of the changes! Discovered Gulp Shrimp years back and thought the bait was way too hard to catch fish which I learned very quickly was incorrect, the flounder and it seemed like every other fish species loved them and they were TUFF as nails. Expensive but you could use one for many fish catches and they worked, so worth it. But that brings us to today's Gulp shrimp, still catch fish but....shrimp of today is very soft, very possible to use one shrimp per flounder, if the fish shakes the shrimp often tears and flings off jighead making it useless. Also the tails of multiple shrimp will fall victim to trash fish which rarely happened in the past. I have noticed 3 changes to the softness of Gulp over the year as it has evolved to very soft. Soft is good for freshwater but very venerable in saltwater applications. I used to say it was worth the extra money to purchase Gulp but now I would say due to the durability the cost would not be worth it versus other scented brands that have twice the baits per pack for same money. Still like and will use other Berkley products and baits but hope they will at least go back to the mid-range on softness for saltwater Gulp.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too soft! The “new” gulp, products, are much softer than the “old” gulp products. They are quickly destroyed by trash fish. I use about five of the new baits to the old Gulp baits. I spend too much time re-rigging baits or rigging new ones. I have been a loyal gulp user for 20 years, but no more. I will,be changing my allegiance to some of your worthy competitors unless you toughen up these baits.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Gulp Shrimp Soft? I have used Gulp Shrimp for several years now with great success. This past week I purchased a new jar. The bait was so soft it was difficult keeping it on the jig head. Has there been a change? I won’t be using this (use to be) great bait anymore.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the same as before Let me start by saying I have loyally used Gulp for years. I've caught keeper reds and trout on them. They always worked great, and, more importantly, lasted forever! BUT-- the new penny shrimp we bought for this fishing season has been awful. They get torn apart by piggy perch/other fish. Whole chunks taken out of them! This has never happened before. Make them more durable and I'll give it a 5 star.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gulp Shrimp I saw these shrimp on John Skinner Fishing on youtube and had to try them for myself so I googled gulp shrimp and checked this site out. Today was the first time I tried them out with the same setup John had and it worked wonders. Blue fish were biting right off the bat and same with fluke. I am definitely going to purchase more varieties of these.
