Tips:
100% of the time I use Stren Tinted Fluorocarbon leader when fishing for calicos, sea bass, or yellowtail. I use a surgeon’s knot to connect the fluorocarbon to the main line – depending on species is either Spider Wire Ultracast, Trilene XT, or Fireline Crystal. When targeting IGFA world records- I spool up with Berkley’s IGFA line. This past season, our best success for calicos was using the new Gulp! 7” Jerk Shad on a weedless hook- literally ‘floating’ the bait in and around holes in the kelp. Furthermore, in cold clear water conditions, slow down your presentation and drop down in leader size for more bites.
