Surgeons knot - how to tie

The Surgeon’s Knot, also known as the Double Surgeon’s Knot, ranks as one of the best and easiest knots to tie for joining lines of equal or unequal diameters. It is simply two overhand knots with the entire leader pulled through the knot each time. It must be tightened by pulling on all four strands to properly seat the knot.

Watch the video below for animated instructions on tying the Surgeon’s fishing knot.

4 Easy Steps for Tying the Surgeon’s Knot:

  1. Place leader line next to the main line
  2. Form an overhand knot by passing the long end of the leader and tag end of mainline through the loop
  3. Form a second over-hand knot by passing the same ends through the loop
  4. Moisten and tighten by pulling all four ends slowly. Trim tags.
