Berkley Pro Reese Takes Lead For Bass AOY Title

Berkley pro Skeet Reese is one event closer to capturing the 2009 B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year title. The Berkley pro finished second this past weekend on Lake Jordan, Wetumpka, Ala. After a slow start on Saturday, Reese picked things up on Sunday by landing 15 pounds, 3 ounces, moving him into the top spot for the Angler of the Year."This is way better than I anticipated after Saturday," said Reese. "I caught them early which took some of the pressure off. I'm stoked to be in this position. All you can ask for is a chance."The Auburn, Calif., native took that chance and ran with it, accumulating a 16–point lead over last year's AOY Kevin Van Dam. If Reese is able to hold on to this lead going into the final event set for September 17–18 on the Alabama River out of Montgomery, Ala., he will add a second AOY title to his laundry list of accomplishments."I try not to look at possibilities," said Reese. "All I can do is go out there and fish the only way I know how – all out. I believe if I can do that, I will put myself in position to win any tournament."Reese wasn't the only Berkley pro enjoying success; Michael Iaconelli won the event and moved into contention for the AOY title. Ike moved into third position after he earned the victory.
