Berkly Pros Dominate First 2011 FLW Tour Event

Berkley pros showed up in a big way at the FLW Tour, which was held on Beaver Lake this past weekend. Berkley had 7 anglers in the top 10 at the first FLW event of the year, including a win by Bryan Thrift. Finishing in the top 10 were Ron Shuffield (3rd), Stetson Blaylock (6th), Dave Lefebre (7th), Wesley Strader (8th), David Dudley (9th) and Justin Lucas (10th).

Thrift, of Shelby, N.C., pulled in a three-day total of 54 pounds, 8 ounces to capture his second career FLW Tour victory.

"There were a bunch of weather changes in this tournament, which made it difficult to figure fish out," said Thrift. "The tournament really turned into a jerkbait type of contest. Berkley 100% Fluorocarbon played a very important role because a nearly invisible presentation is immensely important at Beaver Lake."

With the victory, Thrift claims the $125,000 winner's check and the lead in the FLW Angler of the Year race. Thrift is the reigning AOY from the 2010 FLW season. He looks to continue the success.

"This is one of the most important steps of the season," said Thrift. "The first tournament of the season can be an indicator of the rest of the year. It is sure easy to get behind right off the bat. Luckily, I am able to start off with where I left off last year."

The next FLW Tour event is set for March 24-27 on Lake Hartwell in Greenville, S.C.
